Happy Monday!
A few administrative notes before I get into it:
If you need a little motivation in the kitchen, some new tips, or just want to up your skills, you should be taking my monthly online cooking class. I have been teaching online since well before the pandemic and I have an amazing community of people who have joined! You can take one class or subscribe monthly. The May class is a brunch theme and it is now available!
LA friends, I am chatting with my friend Catherine McCord @weelicious about her new book, Meal Prep Magic on Monday, May 15th at 6:00 pm at Zibby’s Bookshop in Santa Monica. This is a FREE event and will be a lively discussion! We’d love to meet you!
My longtime assistant, Erika, is moving at some point this summer and I will need therapy to get over it. Whether or not I recover from her departure, I will need to replace her. So I am just starting to put the feelers out and I will likely need someone to start right after Labor Day. More details to follow!
Let’s talk wearables! I don’t have a ton of experience with wearables in the sense that I have only used two - the Oura ring and Apollo. But because I receive so many questions about the Oura ring, I thought I could discuss here. Not sponsored.
Oura is a ring that provides personalized INFORMATION about your sleep, activity, heart rate, heart rate variability, and body temperature. I love it because it has given me valuable information about my sleep. First of all, I learned that my sleep is not as bad as I have always thought. Second, it became clear how alcohol and large meals late at night impact my sleep. I also enjoy tracking my activity levels. It is not perfect, but many people agree that the Oura ring is arguably the most accurate wearable in this category. Hubs bought one for his mom and she loves it. It’s easy to wear, water-proof, charges quickly, and many people think I am wearing a piece of jewelry lol. To repeat myself, the ring provides information only and does not affect your physiology. Feel free to chime in with your experience.
Apollo is something I have never talked about or worn on camera. Hubs and I had dinner with a friend last year and he was talking about his struggles with insomnia. He had started using a wearable called the Apollo and noticed a positive change in his nervous system and sleep. This wearable is different from the Oura ring in that the Apollo actually affects your nervous system with different programs that have particular vibrations. Hubs bought it for me for my birthday last fall and I have only worn it to fall asleep and stay asleep and I think it has made an impact on not just helping me fall back to asleep more easily during the night but my HRV (heart rate variability) has improved ever so slightly. My goal is to use it more during the day as well. If you are constantly feeling stressed out, burned out, and your nervous system never feels calm, you may want to look into this device. There is too much science behind the Apollo for me to copy and paste here, but you can read about it here. I notice Apollo is having a Mother’s Day special for $50 off certain styles. Has anyone else used the Apollo?
