Happy Monday!  I hope you had a lovely Mother’s Day!  As promised, I am reporting back about protein powders.  This is kind of a new arena for me since I have never felt the need to use protein powders and I don’t really make a lot of smoothies for myself.  I have been experimenting with adding more protein to my diet and I have done a deep dive into protein powders. My two favorites have been pea protein and whey protein. Whey protein is a byproduct from the production of cheese and pea protein is a plant-based option. Both are complete proteins, meaning they contain all nine essential amino acids. However, whey protein contains more methionine and most likely more leucine per serving compared to pea protein. Leucine is essential for muscle protein synthesis. Whey protein also scores higher on the protein digestibility-corrected amino acid score. Combining pea protein with a rice protein can make this plant-based option more comparable to a whey. Pick whichever protein powder works best for your preferences and goals.

My newsletter is a sponsor-free zone, so just to be clear, any products mentioned are not sponsored.  In fact, I compiled a list of protein powders people recommended in the comments of this Instagram reel.

The protein powders I have tried and liked are:
Mercola Miracle Whey (I used this for my son’s daily smoothies for years.)

MindBodyGreen Grass-Fed Whey Protein Isolate

Ritual Essential Protein (plant-based)

Community Picks:

  • Natural force whey chocolate

  • Four sigmatic (plant-based)

  • Earth chimp

  • Ritual protein powder (plant-based)

  • Truvani (plant-based)

  • FlavCity

  • Kachava

  • 365 Whole Foods Whey (unflavored & vanilla recommended)

  • Be Well by Kelly

  • Amy Meyers MD Paleo Protein

  • Arbonne Vanilla Essential Meal Protein

  • Fittest

For making smoothies, I love the Zwilling Enfinigy Personal Blender.  I also make small amounts of nut milk in it.  For very thick smoothie bowls and acai bowls, I use a Vitamix.

Again, not sponsored, not an affiliate link, just an offering from Zwilling for my community:

  • With a purchase of $150 or more on ZWILLING’s U.S. site, with code PAMELAGIFT, you can get a set of STAUB Prep Bowls in Cherry ($24.99) for free. When supplies last. This offer is only valid for 5 days from 5/13 to 5/17.

As I mentioned, my newsletter is a sponsor-free zone and is fully supported by readers.  Consider being a paid subscriber to get Even More Musings!  Today I am sharing my husband’s amazing Acai Bowl recipe which I have to admit is better than mine! It is boosted with more protein and fiber and tastes amazing.
