I just came back from a trip to Long Island where I spent a great week with my family and then we went directly to Pittsburgh to take my son back to college. We helped him move into his first off-campus residence and it was A LOT of work! We went to Ikea and had a great time picking out lots of stuff for his room and the common rooms. I have never been an Ikea shopper because I don’t have one close to me, and wow - this stuff is well-priced! And then …. we figured out why. LOL You have to build all the furniture yourself and it’s not that easy. We tried hiring someone through the store to build everything but they gave us a date that was too far out. How hard could it be? Hard. Here’s my advice, if you are somewhat handy, you can learn anything on YouTube. I use YouTube all the time. The best thing we did was to find a YouTube video of someone building the exact bed.
Then, when we realized how time-consuming it was, we figured out we could hire someone locally through Task Rabbit. Genius move. He came the next day and assembled the dresser and desk.
We also got this rug. Don’t forget pads to go under rugs.
My son’s closet had no lighting, so we purchased this inexpensive little battery-operated light for his closet and it is fantastic! This one is better if you need more light.
I have one membership to Thrive market which I share with all three of my kids. You can input different credit cards, if you wish. You can ship to different locations. I placed an order for my son in advance with basics (salt, sugar, olive oil, vinegar, nuts) and some of his favorite things (sardines, rice, power bars, pepperoncini, olives, hearts of palm, salad dressing.) Thrive Market also has a ton of cleaning supplies, health and beauty products, it’s endless. You can use my link for 30% off your first order.
I also surprised him with a nice order from Fishwife, his favorite tinned fish. His protein of choice is seafood and legumes so it’s nice to have shelf-stable fish on hand for quick snacks and meals.
Something else I learned this week is that TARGET is an amazing place for groceries! They have every category, including produce and dairy. They carry many high quality brands and their house brand, Good & Gather, is quite good. For people like my son who has no car, and needs one-stop shopping to avoid ubering all over the place, Target is a great option.
I found a new laundry detergent that I am quite smitten with. I reached out to them to see if I can get you guys a discount code to try it. Waiting on that, but in the meantime, check out Clean People. UPDATED: use the code pamelasalzman for 10% off your order! I tried the laundry detergent sheets and they were great! Non-toxic, pleasant scent (but they also have no fragrance.) I also like the fact that they take up very little space (good for people with small laundry spaces.) I will try the dishwashing pods next.
Someone who reads my newsletter emailed me a few weeks ago and recommended I try Visp, a rechargeable whisk bottle, to make my matcha when I travel. Um, GENIUS product! I used it throughout my trip and I could not have been happier. It’s a glass tumbler with a silicone sleeve. I add the matcha powder (my favorite is Pique) and hot water and plant milk and you press a button. The whisk stays in the bottle. And then you sip from the top. It is also leak-proof, which my Healthy Human tumbler is not. I love it! Use code Pamela15 for 15% off.
Lastly, I learned that if you text yourself your flight number on the day of your travel, you can hold down the flight number, then click “Preview Flight ✈️” and it gives you quick up to the minute flight info.

Not that I fly much, but appreciate the tip about texting the flight number!
Oh putting that stuff together is really hard, remember that from my daughters college days. Just hire someone unless you have a day to spend putting it together. Hubby and I bought our grandson a baby bike thing-he is 18 months. . .it cost 20.00. It took hubby and me 90 minutes to put it together. We laughed about it.
